Old Monk was launched in 1954 after Col. Mohan returned from Europe. It is believed that the man on the bottle is that of H.G. Meakin.
Interestingly, H.G Meakin took over the brewery business of Edward Abraham Dyer in 1887 and took it to many heights including getting it listed on the London Stock Exchange. Does the name Dyer ring any bell? Yes, Edward Abraham Dyer, father of the infamous Colonel Reginald Edward Harry Dyer of the Jallianwala fame! Such is life.
Those close to Col. Mohan say that the lounge at his residence has played host to many a who's who including Bollywood stars, politicians and cricketers.
There is so much more to the story, however, we are no experts on that!
We will leave you with the image of the real 'Old Monk'.
